Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, and Jukani Wildlife (SAASA)


The South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA) is comprised of Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary located in The Crags, Plettenberg Bay.  All the SAASA sanctuaries follow ethical and responsible tourism practices and supports the #HandsOffOurWildlife campaign.  These award-winning sanctuaries strives to improve the lives of primates, birds and other wildlife in captivity.

Monkeyland: The world’s first free-roaming multi-specie primate sanctuary. The primate sanctuary is home to 600+ previously captive primates. At Monkeyland, visitors go on a 1 hour guided tour into the lush green forest. The guides will find as many primate species as possible and give guests fun and interesting information about the large variety of primates seen on tour.  You are reminded to take photographs and ask questions throughout the tour and on their 128m suspension bridge you can enjoy a canopy view of the lush forest.

Birds of Eden: Known as the largest single dome free flight aviary around the world.  It is a forever home for over 200 species and nearly 3500 birds.  Here you can go on a self-guided walk through our 3-hectare aviary on their specially build boardwalks. Average time spend in the sanctuary range from 1 hour to 3 hours.  A guidebook with colour photos and fun information on their resident birds are available for purchase at Reception at a small fee, available in English only.  A guided tour can be requested at no additional cost with one of their highly professionally trained guides.

Jukani: The first sanctuary of its kind where the enclosures are built specially for the animal’s needs and personality, hosting Apex Cats, such as lions, tigers, leopards and other Predator and wildlife Animals such as hyenas, jackals, zebras and more.  At Jukani you go on a 1hour 20-minute tour with a professional and trained guide into the 17-hectare sanctuary.  You walk 1.2km going past the enclosures while the guide tells you about the past, present and interesting facts of the animals you see.  They have specially built photography ramps from where you can take amazing photos from.
